Its 2.520 software development kit enables the portable MP3 audio flash player developed with the SigmaTel solution to revolutionize the use of MLC flash memory developed by Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. and Renesas Technology Corp. for the first time. The latest software development kit supports both MLS AG-AND from Renesas Technology and MLC NAND MLC from Toshiba. By supporting MLC technology, MP3 player manufacturers will have access to a wider range of flash memory design options, allowing them to use less expensive MLC flash memory, thereby reducing material costs. In addition, the SigmaTel MLC solution includes an error correction code (ECC) hardware accelerator with built-in chips. MLC flash memory relies on ECC to maintain its reliability, and most applications now use software to reach this project.
