LCD TVs are now available at surprisingly low prices. For example, many 55-inch 4K LCD TVs can be purchased for just 3,000 yuan, while even 32-inch 1080P models are priced as low as 999 yuan—prices that truly astonish consumers. Several brands have also introduced large-sized LCD TVs, with 65-inch and larger models becoming more common. Experts predict that these big-screen TVs could drop below 10,000 yuan next year, making the competition in the large-screen market extremely intense.

As the industry moves forward, it's clear that 60-inch models are entering the mainstream, and the development of laser TVs needs to accelerate. The growth of large-screen LCD TVs has been rapid—within three years (2015–2017), 55-inch models achieved a market share of over 30%. Meanwhile, 60+ inch models are also gaining traction. With the launch of BOE’s first 10.5-generation line in 2018, LCD TVs are set to dominate the 65- and 75-inch markets. By the end of 2017, the trend toward ultra-large LCD TVs is expected to take off in 2018. But what about laser TVs?

One of the biggest challenges for laser TVs is brightness. While they offer an advantage in screen size—often exceeding 100 inches—their ability to resist ambient light remains limited. This is a major drawback compared to LCD TVs, which perform better in well-lit environments.

The window period for laser TVs may not be as long as some had hoped. Although anti-light curtains help improve brightness, the core issue still lies in the light source. Current laser technology requires more generators to achieve higher brightness, which increases the size and cost of the TV. This is a challenge that remains unresolved.
Currently, laser TVs need to solve both brightness and cost issues quickly. Otherwise, when large LCD TVs start cutting prices in 2018, laser TVs will face even tougher competition. Brightness and price are crucial for the success of laser TVs. If these two problems are addressed, the technology could see significant growth.
Many brands remain optimistic about the future of laser TVs, but they also recognize the growing competition. In addition to large-screen LCD TVs, laser TVs must also compete with quantum dot and OLED TVs. Different users value different aspects—some prioritize screen size, while others care more about color accuracy. Therefore, the window for laser TVs might not be as wide as expected.
