Does the city really need to be full of lights all over the city?

On the evening of September 23, Beijing Wangfujing Pedestrian Street, Shanghai Bund and Pudong Complex, Harbin Central Avenue, Xi'an Bell and Drum Tower, Chongqing Chaotianmen Wharf, Nanjing Confucius Temple, Wuhan Hanjiang Riverside Scenic Belt and Shenzhen World Window will be staged simultaneously. Minutes "lights out", extinguishes the lights of the landscape lighting. This is part of the “National Action for Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction” by the National Development and Reform Commission.

(September 22, "Beijing Morning News")

This is another energy-saving activity carried out nationwide following the car-free day. Energy conservation is China's long-term national policy, but in reality, there are still many inconsistencies in energy conservation policies. Excessive urbanization is one of the outstanding examples.

Many cities today are keen to build a city that never sleeps, and think that the brighter the city, the better. Professor Zhu Tiejun, vice chairman of the China Urban Development Research Association, once said: "In general, it is necessary for cities to brighten the streets, hutongs, commercial and cultural entertainment areas, and places where people often move. It is necessary to dress up the city with Chinese New Year. A new atmosphere is also needed to celebrate the festive atmosphere." However, many cities are blindly pursuing the brightness of the city, far from the actual needs. A city official once said: "The modern city should be a bright night city, a 24-hour service hotel, a restaurant... otherwise it can only be said to be a town, not a city."

Under the guidance of this kind of thinking, many urban buildings are decorated with various lights to make them transparent throughout the night; square nights, bright lights, like white; on both sides of the street, in front of the mall, neon cascading. Especially on holidays, the glory is even worse. In fact, does our city really need nights like white?

"Since a city has historical brilliance, it is no longer necessary to use lights to create brightness." As Zhu Tiejun said, the lights of the city full of nights are not only wasting energy, but also upsetting people and being unable to calm down; sometimes, embodying Subtle, quaint, quiet and elegant modest faintness will make people feel more comfortable. Some cities want to make tens of thousands of stars fall into the night market, but the citizens can hardly see the glory of the stars, and it is difficult to feel a pure, peaceful night.

This has to make people think of Paris. People who have been to the city feel that the night in Paris is not bright, and there are no large flashing neon lights. In the eve of the arrival of the 21st century, the city's lighting is not prominent, only to see a few countdowns of Arabic numerals on the Eiffel Tower, but this does not affect the image of Paris in people's minds.

According to a calculation by the Shanghai Electric Power Department in 2005, after the lighting project in Shanghai is fully opened, the power consumption will reach 200,000 kilowatts, accounting for 2% of the total power generation of the entire city, equivalent to the total power supply of the Three Gorges Power Plant to Shanghai at that time. In 2006, Wuhan City imposed restrictions on the electricity consumption of “No Night City” and pulled several electric gates. The electricity cost saved in one night was as high as 50,000 yuan. If all cities can save on urban lighting, the electricity that can be saved in a year is probably a big number. As the industry enters the stage of heavy chemical industry, urbanization accelerates development and has a higher dependence on energy growth. In this case, especially when the "two festivals" are about to come, the city's "light out show" is undoubtedly of great significance.

To greet the festival, you don't have to let the city "sleep all night." The biggest and most effective savings are actually the best way to meet the holidays. We are looking forward to the idea that the "blackout show" can not be limited to one day, but become the norm of urban construction.

Terraces with lights are self-defeating

Qi Xiangrong

On September 22nd, the night view of Longji Terraced Lighting, a famous tourist attraction in Guilin, Guangxi, debuted, adding charm to the upcoming Golden Week of National Day Tourism.

(September 23, Xinhuanet)

The terraces in the mountains and mountains are like chains, and they are high and low, and they are magnificent. The beauty of the Longji terraces, the beauty of the United States in different times, different angles, different climates, different light conditions, showing different charms and sentiments. The terraces under the Langyue people are lingering, and the night view of the lights makes the terraces full of charm. You can't help but say that such lights can easily find a mountain, even on the football field. Besides, the night scene of lighting must pull the wires and install the lamps, which will inevitably destroy the original beauty of the scenery and the harmony of heaven and man.

The introduction of terraced night lights is not accidental, but to welcome the arrival of the National Day Golden Week. In recent years, with the rapid development of tourism, tourism resources are experiencing different types of over-exploitation. In some places, artificial landscapes are prevalent, some places are blindly rebuilt and expanded, and some places are hard-pressed, completely ignoring the organic connection between history and reality. In my opinion, the night view of the light is the egg under this kind of thinking. This is a self-defeating thing.
