OSRAM Optoelectronics Introduces New Headlight LED


Osram Opto Semiconductors, the world leader in LED technology and high-performance automotive products, has developed the next generation of bright OSTAR headlight LEDs. The new and improved headlight LEDs are connected in series with 5 chips, with a color temperature of 6000K and peak performance of 620 lumens at 700 mA - twice the brightness of the previous generation.

According to Ellen Sizemore, director of LED/IR marketing at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors brings the OSTAR headlight LED to an unprecedented level of brightness. Bringing cutting-edge lighting technology to the automotive industry and enabling LEDs to be used as forward lighting applications.

No lens work is required, and the high brightness of the new OSTAR headlight LED achieves this performance through a combination of various methods. Osram's thin-film technology combined with an improved fluorescence converter brings high brightness and minimal space requirements to this new LED product.

New OSTAR headlight LED samples are available now, with volume production starting in the third quarter of 2008.
