Geotextile Wear Tester
Operating Instructions
1. Conduct the test under standard atmospheric conditions as specified in GB6529.
2. Place the calibrated specimen on a stationary upper plate and secure it using clamps at both ends. The abrasive material should be placed on a movable lower plate and similarly clamped.
3. Align the upper plate with the lower plate so that the specimen is properly positioned over the abrasive surface.
4. Apply a total load of (6 ± 0.01) kg to the upper plate, including the weight of the upper plate itself.
5. Turn on the power and set the desired number of wear cycles. The tester will begin the wear test at a frequency of 90 cycles per minute. It will perform 750 cycles or stop if the sample wears through before completing the cycle. If the sample breaks early, record the number of cycles and the condition of the worn sample. In case of any abnormalities during testing, press the stop button and reset the counter for the next test.
6. If the sample or abrasive slips in the clamps, discard the sample and repeat the test after adjusting. Replace the abrasive after each test and follow CB/T3923.1 guidelines for reference and wear samples. Perform stretching tests as required.
7. Calculation and Representation of Results:
Calculate the percentage of strength loss for each test group to the nearest 1%:
Strength Loss Rate (%) = [(FA - FB) ÷ FA] × 100
Where: FA = Reference fracture strength, N; FB = Breaking strength of the worn sample, N.
Calculate the average strength loss rate and its coefficient of variation across five samples.
8. Test Report:
The report must include the following:
a) The standard number used;
b) Sample identification according to GB14798;
c) Test direction and front/back orientation;
d) Average strength loss rate (%);
e) Coefficient of variation of strength loss (%);
f) Any deviations from the standard, such as changes in cycle count, load, etc.;
g) Any abnormal conditions observed during the test, such as unexpected wear or damage.
