Obviously, 3M is based on naked-eye 3D technology as the main development object. Chen Junjie, technical manager of 3M Display Optical Products Group, said that the naked-eye 3D technology is dominated by parallax barrier and lenticular technology. Different from the above two, 3M is launched with self-developed directional backlight technology, with two sets of LEDs, with fast response LCD panel and driving method, so that 3D content enters the viewer in a sequential manner. The eye interchange image produces parallax, which in turn makes the 3D 3D effect visible.

Since the naked-eye 3D technology needs to further design multiple viewing angles, the viewer can experience better 3D image quality from different angles, so the naked-eye 3D display needs to design more viewpoints, but the image resolution will also decrease. Barrier technology has similar problems, in addition to the technical issues that 3D brightness will decline in nature. Chen Junjie technical manager said that 3M's pointing backlight technology will not affect the resolution of 3D images, the light transmittance can be maintained, it will not affect the existing design architecture, and it can also simplify the film material of the backlight module in 3D. The image effect is comparable to the glasses-type 3D display.

Chen Junjie technical manager further pointed out that the pointing backlight technology is to use the backlight module in the design of the LED. The 3D light source is driven by the serial method, and the fast-receiving panel display image is used to accurately project the 3D display light source to the left and right eyes respectively. , alternating with each other to cause parallax and produce a 3D effect. The key to the technology is to use the optical film developed by 3M itself to achieve the effect of accurately projecting the 3D light source to the left and right eyes through the optical film. Chen Junjie's technical manager believes that pointing backlight technology will become one of the mainstream of naked-eye 3D technology, but all kinds of technologies will coexist at the same time.

On the other hand, for multi-view design, Chen Junjie technical manager said that multi-view design will create a gray-like boundary between View and View, which will make viewers produce a little after 3D images. Discomfort. 3M in the 3D viewing area design, it is different from the multi-view design, planning the viewing area of ​​the positive angle, beyond which the 2D image effect is presented.

Chen Junjie technical manager said that 3M started to develop 3D display technology from 2 to 3 years ago. 3M is currently introducing a new 3D display technology, which will mainly display small screens, including mobile phones, game consoles and digital cameras. Digital photo frames and other handheld devices are the main application areas that can support most 3D content. Because these applications are not suitable for 3D display technology with glasses, the above applications are also the main areas where 3M actively promotes 3D display technology, and 3M does not currently plan to intervene in large-size 3D display applications such as 3D TV.
