Panel Market Trends
The first half of September marked the final opportunity for the entire plant to catch up with the peak season for global shipments. With panel prices trending downward, overall purchasing activity across the plant remained positive. However, in October, the global peak season for stock preparations came to an end. Despite this, the continued drop in panel prices is expected to eventually reach the end-user, potentially reviving demand and keeping panel prices on a stable downward trajectory.
32-inch: Most 32-inch shipments are directed toward overseas markets. In October, the overseas inventory buildup is expected to wind down as orders decrease. Additionally, the price of 40-43-inch panels has dropped to a more reasonable level, which has led some buyers to shift their demand from 32-inch to larger sizes. This dual factor is likely to put more pressure on 32-inch panel prices this month.
40-43 inches: The price gap between 32-inch and 43-inch panels has narrowed from $75 at the start of the year to $55 today. As a result, demand has started to recover, and the rate of price decline has slowed down.
49-50 inches: With increased production capacity from the 8.6-generation line, the market pressure that once affected 50-inch panels is now spreading to 49-inch models. This has led to greater downward pressure on prices in this size segment.
55-inch: Both demand and supply have increased. After a significant price cut in the third quarter, there's little room left for further cost reductions, so the decline in prices has slowed down.
65-inch: At the beginning of the year, SDP reduced supply for 60-inch panels, causing a shift in demand toward 65-inch models. Prices rose sharply in the first half of the year. However, with rapid growth in 65-inch TV panel shipments—up 54% year-on-year from January to August 2017—the market faced a severe inventory buildup due to mismatched demand. This led to a sharp price drop. It’s expected that after further declines in the fourth quarter, the price adjustment could stimulate market demand, leading to a slower rate of price decline.
Continental Machine Market
In September, the terminal market saw continued promotion efforts, with a growing share of high-end products such as OLED, quantum dot, HDR, and curved displays. This contributed to an overall rise in average selling prices. With major promotional events like "Brand Day" and "11.11" ending in September, and many home appliance stores affected by tourism-related traffic shifts, the market is expected to see a slight recovery in October. However, as these high-end product promotions taper off, prices may gradually fall. As panel prices continue to decline, low-cost whole machines are expected to enter the market in Q4, contributing to a general downward trend in pricing.
