LED Drivers Reduce Electromagnetic Interference in Low-Cost Luminaires

Diodes introduces the AL8807 step-down switch-mode LED driver. With a switching frequency of up to 1MHz and tightly controlled switch rise and fall times, it is designed to reduce the electromagnetic interference (EMI) of low-cost MR16 LED lamps. To achieve high output power requirements, the driver can operate from an input voltage of 6V to 30V, providing up to 1A of constant current for up to eight series LEDs.

The driver's current accuracy is ±5%, which can meet the requirements of most low-voltage lighting applications and can improve the brightness match between the lamp and the lamp in a 3W LED lighting system. The driver's efficiency is up to 96%, and its output current setting is simple, using only an external resistor.

By changing the DC voltage or pulse width modulation (PWM) signal at the drive control input, the user can adjust the LED brightness and also avoid LED over-current. The AL8807's PWM dimming ratio is 1000:1, and the DC signal dimming range is 16% to 100%, providing users with a flexible and wide range of light intensity control.
