As of the first quarter of 2017, China's national lighting industry reported a total export value of approximately $129 million USD (or around RMB 868 million) to Brazil, representing a 27.41% year-over-year increase. This growth was driven by several key product categories. Lighting fixtures accounted for the largest portion, with exports totaling $840 million USD, which made up 65.36% of the total exports, reflecting a robust 39% rise compared to the previous year. Electric light sources, including bulbs, contributed $36 million USD to the total, representing 28.15% of the exports, and saw a moderate growth rate of 9.9%. Self-powered lighting fixtures, along with their components and finished parts, accumulated $80 million USD in exports, making up 6.05% of the total, with a 7.23% increase from the prior year. Additionally, the export volume of discharge lamps or discharge tubes reached $10 million USD, constituting 0.44% of the total, but showed a remarkable 107.94% surge.
When it comes to regional distribution, the lion’s share of exports originated from major economic hubs such as Zhejiang, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangsu, and Shanghai. Zhejiang led the pack with exports worth $45 million USD, which represented 34.73% of the total exports to Brazil, though this marked only a modest 5.36% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, Guangdong followed closely behind, achieving a cumulative export value of $40 million USD, or 31.41% of the total, showcasing its strong position in the global lighting market.
In the broader context of international trade, these numbers underscore the growing demand for high-quality lighting products in Brazil. As the global economy continues to evolve, it will be interesting to observe how this trend develops and whether other regions can capitalize on similar opportunities in emerging markets.
