Sandy Bridge Server Outbreak: Xeon E5 Four Series Release Plan

Bulldozer architecture Opteron 3200/4200/6200 three series will soon be attacked, Sandy Bridge architecture Xeon E series has long been ready, will be divided into four sub-series full bloom.

Two sub-families, Romley-WS Xeon E5-1600 and Romley-EP Xeon E5-2600, first appeared. The former is for single-channel servers and workstations and uses Socket R LGA2011 encapsulation interfaces, including E5-1620, E5-1650, and E5-1660. The model number, plainly, is Sandy Bridge-E Core i7-3000 series of the same gate division brother.

The Xeon E5-2600 series is also an LGA2011 package interface, but it is intended for two-way servers and workstations and contains up to 17 different models, ranging from two to eight cores with a maximum frequency of 3.3 GHz.

The Xeon E5-1600/2600 series was originally planned for release in the fourth quarter of this year, but it has been postponed until the first quarter of 2012, with the specifications unchanged.

The Xeon E5-2400 and Xeon E5-4600 series have also been delayed for several months, from the first quarter of 2012 to the second quarter. The former codename Romley-EN supports both single and dual configurations. The encapsulation interface is another new Socket B2 LGA1356. The latter code-named Romley-EP 4S, was created for a four-socket server, and the package interface is LGA2011.

During the March-April 2012 period, the 22nm Ivy Bridge will be released, and the corresponding single-processor version of the Xeon E3-1200 v2 series will be followed by the Panther Point C216 chipset. The encapsulation interface is also LGA1155.
