Support for creators, Avnet, Dragon Innovation and Kickstarter release hardware studios

For an increasing number of entrepreneurs, the journey is filled with both opportunities and obstacles. On the positive side, designers report that it's becoming easier to bring their ideas to life, choose the best technology, and develop and test prototypes efficiently. However, the bigger challenge remains: identifying the right market for their products and securing the necessary funding. To help overcome these hurdles, Avnet, Dragon Innovation, and Kickstarter have launched a new initiative called Hardware Studio. This platform is designed to support creators and designers in accelerating the commercialization of new technologies. It offers an interactive space where creators can access tutorials, webinars, and expert advice from industry leaders before launching their projects on Kickstarter for crowdfunding. In addition, Avnet’s Dragon Innovation division has formed a venture capital team known as Hardware Studio Connection. This team provides hands-on engineering support to startups while offering discounted pricing on components and services. These combined efforts aim to guide early-stage ventures through every phase of product development, helping them turn high-risk projects into successful ventures more quickly. Bob Merriman, Avnet’s Business Development Manager, explained that many entrepreneurs juggle multiple projects across different technologies and industries. While creating a product may be manageable, the real challenge lies in bringing those products to market—something that often proves difficult to navigate. Hardware Studio helps startups overcome these roadblocks and move their projects forward with confidence. The Hardware Studio Connection also makes it easier for creators to access the tools and technologies they need to understand the costs and strategies involved in launching their products. By working alongside Dragon Innovation, Avnet leverages its expertise to assist businesses of all sizes, from independent inventors to large multinational corporations, reducing the risks associated with technology development and increasing the likelihood of success. Last year, Avnet expanded its reach to over 2 million customers and more than 750,000 entrepreneurs, makers, and engineers worldwide through the acquisition of Premier Farnell (including its element14 community) and Hackster.io. In August, Avnet further strengthened its position by acquiring Dragon Innovation, aiming to enhance its role in the development of new technologies, especially in the fast-growing Internet of Things (IoT) sector.
