Support for creators, Avnet, Dragon Innovation and Kickstarter release hardware studios

For the growing number of entrepreneurs, there's both good news and ongoing challenges. The positive side is that designers report finding it easier to bring their ideas to life, choose the right technology, and use it to build and test prototypes. However, identifying the best market for their products and securing funding remains a significant hurdle. To tackle these issues, Avnet, Dragon Innovation, and Kickstarter have launched the Hardware Studio — a collaborative platform designed to help creators and designers accelerate the journey from concept to market. This initiative provides tools, resources, and support to streamline the product development process. The Hardware Studio offers an interactive platform where creators can access tutorials and webinars led by industry experts before launching their projects on Kickstarter. It also includes a venture capital team called Hardware Studio Connection, which connects creators with engineers and offers discounted pricing on components and services. These programs aim to guide startups through every stage of product development, helping them navigate risks and bring their ideas to market more efficiently. As Bob Merriman, Avnet’s Business Development Manager, explains, entrepreneurs often juggle multiple projects across different technologies and industries, making the development process long and complex. While creating a product may be manageable, getting it to market remains one of the biggest challenges. Hardware Studio helps bridge this gap by offering practical tools and insights into cost structures and market strategies. With the support of Dragon Innovation, Avnet is expanding its reach to help businesses of all sizes — from independent creators to large corporations — reduce the risks associated with tech project development and increase their chances of success. Last year, Avnet expanded its global presence by acquiring Premier Farnell (including the element14 community) and Hackster.io, reaching over 2 million customers and 750,000 entrepreneurs, makers, and engineers worldwide. In August, Avnet further strengthened its position by acquiring Dragon Innovation, aiming to improve the efficiency of new product development, especially in the fast-growing Internet of Things (IoT) space.
