ASTRI participated in the 2014 CES Hong Kong research show for the first time to attract international attention

Hong Kong, China, January 23, 2014 – The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) today (January 23) demonstrated four innovative technologies developed in Hong Kong that were just launched in Las Vegas, USA earlier this month. Presented at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2014).

Dr. Zhang Niankun, Chief Executive Officer of ASTRI, said that the technology of the Hong Kong R&D Center was watched by international buyers at CES 2014. He said: "Our booth was set up in the Hong Kong Pavilion set up by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. 10,000 CES participants came to visit and received about 440 business inquiries and 4 media interviews. In addition, during the exhibition, representatives of the hospital and nearly 85 new customers conducted nearly 40 business negotiations, many of which were After the exhibition, through various forms of follow-up, it is expected to reach a commercial agreement."

This year, ASTRI participated in CES for the first time. The institute demonstrated a total of 14 technologies in a four-day exhibition, all of which were commercially available.

ASCO's participation in CES 2014 is not only to promote its innovative technology, but also to help Hong Kong SMEs seize the opportunities of the international market through the CES platform. Among them, the multi-window Android ultra-mini personal computer (also known as the baby ultra-microcomputer) jointly developed by ASTRI and an innovative electronic product design and solution provider in Hong Kong, Jiajun Technology Co., Ltd., has attracted much attention in CES. The company has taken a big step in entering the international market.

Mr. Jian Jinyuan, Managing Director of Jiajun Technology Co., Ltd. said: Baby Ultra Microcomputer adopts the technology developed by ASTRI. It is widely favored by scientific and technical personnel, buyers and media in CES 2014. It is the best proof of Hong Kong's scientific research strength. . I think that through the research and development of ASTRI, technology-based Hong Kong companies can effectively reduce research costs and enable products to be launched in the market in a shorter period of time.

Baby AMD is one of the key demonstration projects today. The baby uses Android graphics processing (GPU) technology and is the world's first multi-window Android supercomputer. Its operating system uses an open source Android platform to bring more diverse application choices to PC users. The AMD computer has a WiFi hotspot and supports simultaneous VGA and HDMI dual output sync display. In addition, users can simultaneously transfer the contents of their mobile phones or tablets to the LCD display and large TV screens.

In addition, the advanced technology research and development achievements of the demonstration at the briefing are: solar street light management system, high-definition to 4K ultra-high resolution conversion platform, and portable interactive desktop.

ASTRI's solar street light management system uses the IoT gateway and management platform software developed in the hospital. At present, the platform software has been applied by an industry partner in its solar street light management system in Wuhan. The company also plans to use the software to monitor and manage the status of more than 10,000 street lamps. The IoT technology developed by ASTRI itself will also facilitate the development and deployment of other systems for smart cities, such as environmental monitoring and municipal management systems. The platform software can be applied to smart homes.

IoT Gateway and Management Platform Software

Dr. Chen Shaoping, the chief engineer of the Communication Technology Group of ASTRI, introduced the IoT gateway and management platform software developed by the institute.

In addition, ASTRI has also developed its HD to 4K ultra-high resolution conversion platform using its visual enhancement Ultra HD technology. The platform uses innovative algorithms to analyze video content to convert HD movies to near 4K quality output. In addition to eliminating the uneven contours and reducing the halo in the movie, the platform optimizes the details to give the viewer the best visual experience.

HD to 4K ultra high resolution conversion platform

Mr. Zhao Jingxiong, Senior Manager of IC Design Group of ASTRI, introduced the high-definition to 4K ultra-high resolution conversion platform developed by the institute.

ASTRI's portable interactive desktop features innovative depth detection technology with optical sensors that allow users to interact directly with the touch screen. This technology enables any common flat surface to be instantly converted into an interactive desktop with multi-touch capabilities, as well as the content of personal computers, smartphones and tablets or the built-in Android operating system. Through ASTRI's short-focus projection engine, the projected image size can be up to 20 inches, while maintaining the portability and image quality of the system.

Dr Cheung expects that in the next few years, more innovative products using ASTRI technology will emerge in the international market. He said: "With close cooperation with the Hong Kong SAR Government and industry partners, ASTRI will Continue to develop more world-class innovative technologies to further enhance the commercial value of Hong Kong's research products in the international market."

Portable interactive desktop

Mr. Chen Jianlong, Senior Manager of the Materials and Packaging Technology Group of ASTRI, introduced the portable interactive desktop developed by the institute.

CES is regarded as the world's most important innovation technology and consumer electronics exhibition, providing first-class business opportunities for buyers and sellers of electronic products. This year's CES was held from January 7 to 10, 2014.

Introduction to ASTRI

The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was established in 2000 by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. Its mission is to enhance the competitiveness of Hong Kong through the application of technology research to help develop technology-based industries.

ASTRI's research spans five related areas, including communications technology, enterprise and consumer electronics, integrated circuit design, materials and packaging technology, and biomedical electronics. In 2011, ASTRI established an information research laboratory to conduct research on emerging and cross-disciplinary technologies.

In 2006, ASTRI was commissioned by the Innovation and Technology Commission to host the "Hong Kong ICT Research and Development Centre" to carry out high-quality research and development, transfer scientific and technological achievements to the industry, cultivate outstanding scientific and technological talents, and integrate industry and academia. R&D resources and other tasks. In 2012, ASTRI was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology to establish the National ASIC System Engineering Technology Research Center Hong Kong Branch. This is the first national engineering technology research center sub-center established in Hong Kong.

Since its inception, ASTRI has been committed to creating world-class technology and practicing customer-oriented application research to meet the real needs of the industry. Over the years, ASTRI has trained a number of outstanding researchers, registered a number of intellectual property rights, and created economic benefits by transferring these new technologies to Hong Kong, Mainland China and the region. To further serve the Mainland market, ASTRI established a wholly-owned subsidiary, "Accord Science and Technology Research (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd." in Shenzhen in 2008.

Looking ahead, ASTRI will strive to develop into one of the best and most influential R&D centers in the region, contributing to the continued technological development and competitiveness of Hong Kong and throughout China.
