NEC recently announced that it will cooperate with the Scientific Police Research Institute to jointly test and evaluate the accuracy of the currently-developed DNA analyzer for personal identification that can be integrated from the DNA to the analysis stage. This joint test evaluation will continue until the end of 2013.
The portable DNA analyzer is composed of a chip for analyzing the device and its consumables, and a reagent pack. NEC cooperates with other companies to reduce the assembly cost of its micro-liquid control technology for analytical wafers and reagent kits. Through the integration of the analysis chip and the reagent pack device, the test tube analysis step that was previously required for the analysis operation is eliminated, and the ease of operation is greatly improved.
The DNA analysis process includes cell extraction, DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), DNA electrophoresis (Electrophoresis), and short column repetitive sequence analysis to identify individual differences ( STR, Short Tandem Repeat) and other five steps. The portable DNA analyzer can integrate all the devices required for the above steps into one analyzer. Through integration, each analysis process can be linked, and the speed of the polymerase chain reaction that requires repeated heating and cooling can be greatly accelerated, and the operation time of the analysis process after DNA extraction is shortened. In this test evaluation, the entire analysis process was completed in about 60 minutes. In addition, the integrated DNA analyzer condenses the original huge analysis instrument to about the size of a suitcase, which can be used for immediate DNA analysis on site.
NEC and the Institute of Scientific Police conducted the first phase of joint testing and evaluation from October 24 to November 7, using DNA samples provided by the Institute of Scientific Police to simulate real situations. This test compares the analysis results obtained by the original DNA analysis method with the analysis results obtained by the analysis method of the portable DNA analyzer. The results confirm that the portable DNA analyzer provides high accuracy With reproducible DNA data, it has a very outstanding performance. The Scientific Police Research Institute said that the results of this test evaluation, "If some parts that need to be adjusted can be improved, I believe that in the future, we will be able to obtain the purpose of rapid DNA testing."
