Silan Microelectronics Introduces 6-36V Input, 1A High Power Hysteresis LED Driver Chip

Silan Microelectronics recently introduced a high-performance, high-reliability, high-power green lighting driver solution core chip -- 6 ~ 36V input, 1A high power hysteresis LED driver chip SD42525. The chip adopts patented technologies such as Silan Microelectronics "compensate for output current with input voltage variation" and "maximum duty cycle current limit when input and output voltage difference is small", based on Silan Microelectronics for green energy-saving products. Developed high-performance BCD process, integrated LDMOS power switch tube in a single chip, built-in PWM dimming module and multiple protection functions. The chip is a step-down, constant current LED driver circuit with high conversion efficiency, suitable for a variety of LED lighting fields such as MR16.

The SD42525 uses hysteresis mode control for fast transient response without the need for an additional loop compensation design, requiring minimal external components and significantly reducing application cost. Generally speaking, the LED drive circuit of the hysteresis control mode will change the output current with the input voltage and the number of LED loads due to the delay of the internal comparator and the whole system. When the input voltage changes within the range of 6V to 36V. The output current will vary from 10% to 15%. The SD42525 adopts the patented output current compensation technology of Silan Microelectronics, which can greatly reduce the variation of the output current with the input voltage, so that the output current variation range can be controlled within ±3%. In addition, the duty cycle of the hysteresis control mode is determined by the input voltage and the LED load voltage drop. When the input voltage and the LED load voltage drop are close, the duty cycle can reach 100%. At this time, the output current will be much larger than the normal operating current. Can be about 20% higher. Therefore, the chip is added to the maximum duty cycle module to ensure that the maximum duty cycle does not exceed 96%, thereby preventing the output current from being too high and making the output current more stable.

Thanks to the advanced BCD process and the use of high-precision trimming technology, the chip's output current is consistent, and the output current difference of different batches can be controlled within ±3%.

The SD42525 can be PWM dimmed or analog dimmed with DIM pins. The two dimming modes multiplex one pin, making the customer application simpler and more efficient. The precision of PWM dimming is high. Compared with analog dimming, there is no LED color shift, which can meet the dimming requirements in the range of 100Hz to 20kHz. The chip has a soft-start function that determines the soft-start time by setting a suitable capacitor between the DIM pin and ground.

The advanced system architecture and LDMOS power switch with built-in low on-resistance make the system conversion efficiency of SD42525 up to 96%. In addition, the chip integrates multiple protection circuits such as temperature protection and current limiting to ensure the normal working environment of the LED lamp and prolong its service life. The SD42525 is available in SOP-8, SOT-23-6L, and SOT-89-5L packages to allow customers to choose the right package type.

The chip can be used in typical applications such as DC input and AC input. In typical DC input applications, the wide input voltage range is 6V~36V wide and can output up to 1A. When the input voltage is 24V, 6 LEDs can be connected in series, and there are very few peripheral components in the system, which is very suitable for 24V power system. In a typical application of an AC input MR16 spotlight, when the input voltage range is AC 12V, only 8 peripheral devices are required.
