Sun Moonlight has fully acquired defective products, but the situation is not without complications. According to reports, some customers are concerned that after the full acquisition of product equity, the risk of over-concentration of orders might increase. As a result, evaluation plans have already been passed on to companies such as Xingke Jinpeng and Aikeer.
It is also reported that MediaTek, which is currently involved in both ASE and counterfeit product operations, may begin shifting some of its orders to Jiangsu Changdian. Meanwhile, Qualcomm, the global leader in mobile phone chips, could also consider transferring its orders to Aikeel or Licheng. Industry observers believe that as ASE's control over counterfeit product equity strengthens, related wafer fabrication processes may accelerate their decentralization of OEM sources.
ASE has responded to these developments, stating that the integration with counterfeit products will enhance overall packaging and testing technologies, which should be beneficial for IC design companies. Many in the chip industry are reportedly pleased with this trend. Regarding customer orders, ASE believes that this is an inevitable part of the growth of the domestic supply chain. Even without mergers and acquisitions, these customers would have evaluated their orders anyway.
Although the board’s stance has softened, the conflict between the two sides has expanded from stock price disputes into broader anti-monopoly debates. The counterfeit products are reportedly planning to raise concerns about the application of their partnership with ASE at the Taiwan Fair, hoping that fair members will challenge or conditionally approve it.
Regarding the questions raised by the counterfeit products to shareholders, ASE has yet to respond publicly. However, it appears that the company is preparing explanations to clarify that the product shareholder will be sold, allowing the second public acquisition to proceed smoothly.
Meanwhile, the company has also encouraged existing customers to start evaluating or planning the transfer of orders, including to Jiangsu Changdian, Aikeel, or other Taiwanese peers. According to insiders, MediaTek is considering the mainland business opportunities and may lead the transfer of recent orders to Jiangsu Changjiang Electronics Co., Ltd. However, MediaTek has not confirmed these rumors.
As for Qualcomm, which currently relies heavily on Sun Moonlight, Aikel, and counterfeit products as its main partners, it is believed that once Sun Moonlight gains control of the defective products, the previously scattered packaging and testing orders might need to be restructured. This could lead to increased orders for Ike, and the company may even become a partner in the future.
