Freescale anti-pinch window lift reference design

1 Overview

Freescale and Tongji University jointly launched a reference design for the automotive window glass lifting system using the MagniV S12VR MCU. This anti-pinch window lifter reference design demonstrates its functionality in automotive design and is ideal for the development of electric windows and sun visor systems. The reference design also includes hardware for real door/window applications, as well as software such as anti-trapping algorithms and low-level S12VR drivers.

This reference design takes advantage of the unique features of the MagniV S12VR MCU to reduce time to market. In addition to helping to reduce unnecessary external components, the reference design also reduces total bill of materials (BOM), improves system quality, and saves space in automotive applications by using smaller PCBs.

2. Reference design features

1) Window manual / automatic rise / fall, automatic rise / fall through the stop function

2) Manual/automatic mode anti-pinch, anti-pinch area and strength can be adjusted.

3) Jam detection outside the anti-pinch area, motor overload protection

4) Soft stop when the window is close to the top/bottom

5) Fault diagnosis, indicating low voltage, over voltage / over current / high temperature, etc.

6) Low power mode (using S12VR low power mode) to reduce power consumption

7) Self-learning, calibrated by updating the window/motor parameters stored in the EEPROM

8) Use Hall sensor and current detection to determine the anti-pinch by algorithm

9) Easy to control graphical user interface (GUI), can set parameters, get status information

10) Window lifter can be controlled by multiple LIN slave nodes or LIN master nodes (via GUI)

3. Support device

S12VR : S12 MagniV Mixed-Signal MCU for Relay-Driven Motor Applications

The S12VR family combines NVM, digital logic and high voltage analog components into a single-chip solution. These analog components include an automotive voltage regulator, LIN physical layer, low side drive, high side drive and input. New high-voltage devices can withstand the rigors of automotive environments (up to 40V, which can occur during load dumps) with industry-recognized 16-bit S12 CPUs and memory subsystems (including ECC-protected flash memory) Integrated with real EEPROM). The S12 CPU is fully compatible with the cost-effective, highly integrated S12G series MCUs. Digital peripherals such as SPI, SCI serial modules, PWM and timer modules in the S12VR are also compatible.

The S12VR integrates all the components in a system, saving valuable PCB space, simplifying design, improving overall system quality and reducing costs. A smaller PCB means a smaller chassis, and adding a little weight to a car application will increase fuel efficiency. The S12VR integrates different components, reducing the development time required to get a complete solution, which greatly speeds time-to-market. The S12VR series with integrated LIN-PHY has been approved by major automotive OEMs to meet LIN specifications and EMC requirements and now supports ambient temperatures up to 125 °C.
