According to Ronda executives, there are two main approaches for 3D sensing: one using infrared LEDs and the other utilizing VCSEL technology. They believe that VCSEL offers greater accuracy compared to traditional LEDs. As part of their strategy, Ronda has been working closely with CMOS-based partners to develop these technologies. Currently, LED-based face and iris recognition systems are already in production and being shipped to customers. However, the focus for next year remains on advancing VCSEL technology.
In a legal discussion last Friday, Ronda highlighted that VCSEL's revenue contribution is expected to surpass that of mini LED in 2018. This is due to the ongoing development of VCSEL technology, which is currently in progress and is expected to be introduced to customers in the first half of the year, continuing to generate revenue moving forward.
Ronda has been actively transforming itself, making significant progress in the non-Blu-ray LED market. In the coming months, the company continues to expand into new business areas. In addition to announcing an infrared LED module that combines both iris and face recognition capabilities, as well as two different infrared LED packages with varying illumination angles, Ronda is also entering new markets such as automotive applications, industrial automation, and medical health. Executives stated that these new ventures are expected to account for approximately 10% of the company’s total revenue next year.
