Ronda has been working closely with its customers to develop a facial recognition package module after the crystal TV integrates with VCSEL technology. Ronda anticipates that this new product will contribute more revenue than its mini LED business.
According to Ronda's executives, there are two main approaches for 3D sensing: using infrared LEDs or VCSELs. They believe that VCSEL technology offers higher accuracy and is therefore a key focus for future development. Ronda has already started collaborating with CMOS mode groups on customer projects. Currently, LED-based face and iris recognition systems are already being shipped, while VCSEL is set to become the main area of development in the coming year.
In a legal discussion held last Friday, Ronda stated that VCSEL is expected to generate greater revenue than mini LED in 2018. This is because the technology is currently in the implementation phase, with the first customer trials scheduled for the first half of the year. The company expects continuous revenue contributions from this product in the future.
Ronda has been actively transforming its business model, making significant progress in the non-Blu-ray LED market. In the near term, the company has been focusing on developing new business areas. In addition to announcing an infrared LED module that combines both iris and face recognition, Ronda has also introduced two different infrared LED packages with varying illumination angles. Furthermore, the company is expanding into automotive applications, industrial automation, and medical health sectors. Ronda executives expect these new ventures to account for approximately 10% of total revenue by next year.
