The prospect of PLC products in the financial crisis in the automotive industry is not optimistic

The automotive manufacturing industry is large in scale and requires high automation. The automation technologies and products involved include control products, fieldbus, motion control, machine vision, discrete sensors, and safety products. The auto manufacturing industry has become one of the main markets for automation. The automotive industry is the second largest end-user industry for PLC applications, second only to the metallurgical industry.

The automobile production line is divided into four major processes: stamping, welding, assembly and painting (painting). Each process will use a large number of PLCs for control. Therefore, it is the largest potential industry for PLC applications, and it is also the FA industry with the highest comprehensive technical requirements.

In addition to using the robot in the press shop, other controls use the PLC. Welding shop is mainly used for transmission control, a production line with 5-8 PLC. If the mark 206 presses the line, distributed control is used. Each PLC controls a small system, such as a station on a logistics production line. The assembly shop PLC is mainly used for conveyor line control. There are three types of conveyor lines: overhead line, interior line and final line. The overhead line PLC is used for engine control of the rear axle and front axle, and the final assembly line is used for test control and movement control of each station. A general process (such as the final assembly line) uses a PLC, medium-sized 300IO, and large 1000IO or more.

The PLC users in the automotive industry not only include various types of vehicle manufacturers, but also include various assemblies, components, and parts manufacturers. PLCs used by different manufacturers vary greatly and cover PLC products of various sizes. In the component manufacturers, large, medium and small PLCs are used for conveyor control, oven control cabinets, and Air Conditioning control.

There are many large and medium-sized PLC products in the automotive industry. From the perspective of the value of products used, the proportion of medium-sized PLC is the largest. There are few applications for small PLCs, which are mainly used in some pre-disposal trolleys.

Slightly different from the previous years, three years ago, the automobile production line and its automation products were all basically purchased internationally. Most of the automobile production lines in China were imported. PLC was introduced along with the production line, but the relevant spare parts were only purchased in China. However, in recent years, the automobile market has become fiercely competitive and cars have drastically reduced their prices. Manufacturers have begun to reduce costs and many automated products on the production line have begun to purchase domestically. However, the automotive industry is a decentralized manufacturing industry. Different parts come from different branches and use different production facilities. Therefore, a car manufacturer will use multiple brands of PLCs.

Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, and Rockwell Automation have the most extensive user coverage in the automotive industry. Other brands such as ABB, Schneider, GE Fanuc, Koyo, and LS are also used by specific users. The brand selection of the automotive industry has certain country characteristics. Usually, Japanese automobile companies such as Honda and Nissan prefer Mitsubishi PLC products.

With the intensification of the impact of the financial crisis, the automotive industry has also been a huge impact, so the future of PLC products in the automotive industry in the coming year is not optimistic.
