Fashion industry seeks to upgrade through wearable devices

The rise of the new technological revolution has catalyzed the rapid changes of the global industrial chain. The new production methods have driven the development of traditional industries and brought challenges.

In the last century, Jobs created Apple, and over the years, it has improved the public's aesthetic taste for technology products. For the current intelligent hardware industry, the elimination of appearance limitations and the unification of technology and external design can effectively enhance market competitiveness.

According to market research firm GFK (JF), the average price of wearable products in the domestic market is basically maintained at around 300 yuan.

Two years ago, a smart bracelet called Elemoon was launched on the market and caused competition between Indiegogo and Kickstarter.

“The introduction of fashion sense is that users reduce the requirements for equipment functions, expand the target user group, and help manufacturers further expand the market.” Wang Xiaoxia, an analyst at Yiguan, told the First Financial Reporter.

Elemoon's main line is the elegant route. In addition to the general bracelet function, the screen is replaced by more than 70 LED lights and 225 lights. Users can control the lamp bead to change the pattern and color on the client.

The bracelet is priced at $199 in Kickstarter crowdfunding and $20,000 in less than a day. At present, the price of this bracelet has reached 399 US dollars (about 2,747 yuan), ten times higher than the average price of similar products in the market.

Although there are already many examples of fashion and technology integration, for start-ups, cross-border design is still not difficult. "The biggest problem now is how to make up for this gap and let technology and fashion connect." Zhang Chenglin told reporters.

With the development of Internet technology, the offline fashion industry has been impacted, ushered in an overall upgrade from the industrial model to the connotation, and technology is the export of industrial transformation and upgrading. This transformation is reflected in two aspects: First, traditional stores are managed by technology, and secondly, products are gradually with technological attributes.

In June last year, the Shenzhen Fashion Designers Association and the Industrial Design Industry Association jointly established the FTIA Fashion Technology Industry Accelerator to find resources for technology or fashion products. It is planned to reach 20 projects at the end of this year.

In Zhang Chenglin's view, the biggest problem facing cross-border entrepreneurs is not funding, but an understanding of the potential consumer market. “When a maker organization or company defines a product, there is no consumer involvement, so they have no way of knowing the true ideas and needs of the consumer.”

This stage needs help from people who have a deep understanding of the market. From this perspective, the combination of fashion and technology can make up for both.

Smartcoach can only be used as an early FTIA project. Bottleneck: Technology upgrade

The latest report from market research firm IDC shows that smart wearable device shipments are expected to reach 101 million units this year, an increase of 29% over last year. This growth rate will remain at around 20% and reach a peak of 213 million units by 2020.

However, the market performance of smart wear is not as good as the performance of the data: this year, most of the exhibitions at home and abroad show a significant reduction in the number of smart wearable companies. Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Nike and many other manufacturers are involved in smart wearable hardware products. The smart watches, smart glasses and even smart clothing produced occupy a large market share, but there is no killer product in the wearable field.

Patrick Moorhead, principal analyst of research firm Moor Insights & Strategy, believes that the current development of smart watches has pressed the pause button, and manufacturers are waiting for industry innovation.

“The smart wearable industry is still in its infancy, and the user experience is generally a major cause of cooling. Smart wearable devices want to gain market recognition and meet user needs. On the one hand, it is also important to improve the portability and intelligence of products.” Wang Xiaoxia Analysis of the reporter.

In contrast to the fashion industry, the role of technology in cross-border areas is clearly more important.

Improving the portability and intelligence of products must solve chip and battery problems. The endurance and portability of traditional lithium batteries are obviously insufficient, and graphene batteries are also practical applications, which are important factors that restrict the development of the current technology fashion industry.

Zhang Chenglin told reporters that he and the team had designed a smart jewellery earlier, and finally had to give up because the battery could not be the ideal size, and there are many examples of this.

"In this process, the technology development cycle is relatively longer. Each component, one of which has a problem, the whole device can not be used, so the product development and debugging, as well as the later detection, is much more difficult than the traditional fashion industry. The electronic component chip industry has a 3% non-performing rate. How to reduce this non-performing rate requires technology to be upgraded."
