Casio's innovative detachable free-standing camera with Cypress TrueTouch touchscreen controller and MoBL SRAM

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. recently announced that Casio’s innovative freestyle cameras incorporate its TrueTouch® capacitive touch screen controller and SRAM products. The Casio EX-FR10 camera features a unique design where the lens can be detached from the touch control unit, offering users greater flexibility—whether they choose to remove the lens, hang it around their neck with a lanyard, or mount it at any angle. This design is powered by Cypress’ TrueTouch technology, allowing users to view and capture the perfect shot directly on the responsive touch screen. The camera also utilizes Cypress’ MoBL™ (More Battery Life™) asynchronous low-power SRAM, which ensures fast data throughput and smooth image caching. This helps enhance overall performance while extending battery life. You can watch a video showcasing Cypress’ technology in action in this camera. TrueTouch brings industry-leading water resistance to the Casio EX-FR10’s display, making it ideal for use in challenging environments like rain, fog, or sweat. This feature is made possible through Cypress’ proprietary DualSense™ technology, which combines self-capacitance and mutual capacitance sensing on a single device. In addition, TrueTouch enables intuitive operation using familiar smartphone-like gestures—such as a light swipe to wake the screen or a tap to take a photo. Cypress’ MoBL SRAM offers 45 ns access speed and comes in a compact ball-point solder array (BGA) package, helping reduce board space. Both the low power consumption and high performance contribute to longer battery life, making the EX-FR10 an efficient and versatile device. Hitoshi Yoshizawa, Vice President of Sales at Cypress Japan, commented: “Casio’s EX-FR10 camera showcases our TrueTouch and MoBL SRAM technologies, proving that Cypress solutions are well-suited for the growing wearable electronics market. Not only does TrueTouch deliver the best water resistance in the industry, but we also developed custom firmware with Casio to meet their strict user interface standards. This collaboration highlights our leadership in SRAM and our commitment to meeting the precise needs of our customers, reinforcing our long-term investment in this critical market.”
