Littelfuse Announces Low-Capacitance TVS Diode Arrays to Clamp Voltages Similar to Similar Silicon Solutions

Littelfuse, a global leader in circuit protection technology, has introduced the SP3014 series of TVS diode arrays (SPATM diodes) designed to safeguard electronic devices from potentially damaging electrostatic discharge (ESD). The SP3014 series features two channels of low-capacitance steering and Zener diodes, enabling it to safely absorb high levels of repeated ESD shocks as defined by the IEC61000-4-2 standard—without affecting system performance. Compared to traditional silicon-based solutions, the SP3014 series reduces clamping voltage by over 50%, offering enhanced protection for sensitive integrated circuits against electrical transients. Its ultra-low load capacitance makes it ideal for use on high-speed signal lines such as USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and 1Gb Ethernet. Additionally, the device's extremely low dynamic resistance ensures that transient overvoltages remain at safe levels, protecting even the most advanced and sensitive chipsets from ESD-related damage or early failure. This makes the SP3014 suitable for a wide range of applications, including ultrabooks, laptops, LCD TVs, set-top boxes, Ethernet switches, external hard drives, smartphones, and automotive electronics. Chad Marak, Director of Product Line for Transient Suppression Diode Arrays at Littelfuse, commented: "The SP3014 family delivers an impressive dynamic resistance of just 0.04Ω, providing circuit designers with highly optimized clamping solutions that protect even the most delicate ICs from ESD and other transient events. With its near-ideal brickwall clamp response and a mere 0.5pF load capacitance, the SP3014 is perfectly suited for both low-speed and high-speed applications." The SP3014 series offers several key advantages: - Extremely low dynamic resistance (0.04Ω), resulting in clamping voltages more than 50% lower than similar silicon-based solutions. - Strong ESD protection, rated at ±15kV contact discharge and ±25kV air discharge, exceeding the highest IEC standards. - Ultra-low capacitance (as low as 0.5pF) minimizes signal loss and maintains optimal system performance, reducing the need for complex impedance simulations. - Compact μDFN-6L package allows direct routing under the device, simplifying PCB layout and eliminating signal loss from long traces. - Automotive-grade quality ensures reliability in the harshest environments. The SP3014 series is available in 3,000-piece quantities, packaged in tape and reel format. Samples can be obtained through authorized Littelfuse distributors worldwide.
