Benefiting from the rising demand for smart phones, global sales of small and medium-sized OLED panels in 2012 jumped nearly doubled to US$6.86 billion from US$3.52 billion in 2011. In comparison, the sales growth rate of small and medium-sized LCD panels in 2012 was only 12.3%.
Driven by the increasing demand for tablet-type smart phones, OLED panels will continue to drive sales of small and medium-sized panels to a stronger performance. In 2013, OLED panel sales will increase by 54.5% to US$10.6 billion, and the proportion of small and medium-sized panel market will exceed 20% for the first time.
Statistics show that Samsung DisplayCo., the OLED panel supplier of Samsung Electronics Galaxy series smart phones, had a market share of 22.9% last year, ranking the highest among all manufacturers. The market share of Sharp and JapanDisplay was 13.2% and 11.8% respectively. LGDisplayCo. has a market share of 11.5% and ranks fourth.
